Introducing the Integrated School Support Program (ISSP)

Supporting our students is a shared effort, and we are fortunate to have strong partnerships that help our school community thrive. With that in mind, we are pleased to announce that Ernest Morrow School has been chosen to join the Integrated School Support Program (ISSP).

What is ISSP?

The Integrated School Support Program provides additional supports and services designed to meet the academic, social, emotional, and physical needs of students. The goal of ISSP is to strengthen student success and overall well-being through a coordinated, school-based approach.

The program focuses on key areas such as:

  • Student well-being and mental health
  • Academic success
  • Nutrition
  • Physical activity
  • Building a safe, positive, and connected school community with support from positive relationships with law enforcement

Through ISSP, students can access wraparound supports at school, including meal programs, after-school programming, structured physical education, and access to mental health professionals, along with other community supports.

ISSP at Ernest Morrow School

ISSP is funded by the Calgary Police Youth Foundation and is a partnership between the Calgary Police Service, Calgary Board of Education, Calgary Catholic School District, and the City of Calgary’s Community and Neighbourhood Services.

At Ernest Morrow School, current supports—such as meal programs and structured physical education—will continue. Our ISSP partnership will also help us strengthen positive relationships within our community, including a positive police presence through participation in school events and activities.

We are especially excited to share that ISSP funding includes a full-time school psychologist. We are pleased to welcome Chantelle James Koop and Jason Jordan, who will be joining Ernest Morrow School in early February. Chantelle and Jason will be sharing the role and will work alongside teachers and staff to support student well-being. This may include involvement in classroom lessons focused on social-emotional learning, supporting whole-class discussions around topics such as friendships and coping strategies, and working individually with students for assessments or counselling, with parental consent.

We are proud to be part of this opportunity and look forward to the positive impact ISSP will have on our students and school community. Thank you for your continued support, and please join us in welcoming the Integrated School Support Program to Ernest Morrow School.
