Hello EMS Families
It has been a busy and positive week at Ernest Morrow School! As we continue to build a welcoming and supportive learning environment, I want to highlight the important work our English as an Additional Language (EAL) team has been doing to support our English language learners, celebrate the opening of our student-operated thrift shop, and share a few important reminders for the week ahead.
Celebrating Our EAL Team
Our EAL team plays an important role in helping students develop their English language skills while accessing learning across all subject areas. Through collaboration with classroom teachers, targeted support, and intentional strategies, our team works to ensure that students have opportunities to build confidence, strengthen their communication skills, and experience success in their learning.
Supporting English language learners is a shared responsibility across our school community. The work of our EAL team helps teachers better understand and respond to students’ language-learning needs, ensuring that students feel welcomed, included, and supported as they continue to grow as learners. Thank you to our EAL team for the care, collaboration, and commitment you bring to supporting our students every day!
Our Mustang Thrift Shop Is Open!
Our student-operated, in-school thrift shop is up and running! All Mustangs are welcome to come and shop on Friday mornings between 9:15 and 10:00 a.m. Items are priced between $1 and $2, making this a great opportunity for students to find something they need at an affordable price.
Families can support our thrift shop initiative by donating gently used clothing, home goods, art and craft supplies, and other items that could be put to good use by our school community.
If you have any questions about the thrift shop, please contact mlbaillargeon@cbe.ab.ca.
Thank you for supporting this initiative and helping our students build a culture of sustainability, resourcefulness, and community!
Important Reminder: Cell Phones During the School Day
Please remember that the Ministerial Order restricting cell phones in classrooms, with limited exceptions, remains in effect. Cell phones can be a significant distraction from learning, and we need families to partner with us in keeping our classrooms focused and free from unnecessary interruptions.
Please do not text your child while they are expected to be in class. Even a quick message can interrupt learning and put students in a difficult position when they feel they need to respond immediately. We ask that you allow your child to remain focused on instruction and wait until an appropriate time to connect.
If you need to speak with your child during the school day, please do so during lunch. If there is an emergency, contact the school office, and we will help you connect with your child.
Thank you for partnering with us to minimize distractions and support student learning. When families and school staff work together to reinforce these expectations, we help create a more positive and productive learning environment for everyone.
