Dear Families,
We’ve had a fantastic week of learning and community at Ernest Morrow School. Students have been engaging enthusiastically in their classrooms, and it has been wonderful to see the positive energy throughout the school. This week, our school community came together for Orange Shirt Day and the Terry Fox Run, both of which were a great success. Thank you to everyone—students, staff, and
families—who participated and helped make these events meaningful experiences for our students.
Staffing and Class Organization Update
This year, our student enrollment is lower than expected. As a result, Ms. Amelia Chan will be leaving EMS on September 26.
We are very thankful for her many contributions to our students and school community.
To support student learning, we have reorganized our timetable and added one new Grade 7 homeroom and one new Grade 8 homeroom. This will reduce class sizes in core subjects from about 35 students to about 27. While this change means fewer option choices across grades, we are working with staff to align their expertise with student interests and will do our best to honour student
selections.
The new timetable will begin on October 1. Students will spend the morning in their homerooms and then move through a shortened version of their schedule.
Upcoming Events & Important Dates
- Monday, September 29 – Non-instruction Day (no school for students)
- Tuesday, September 30 – National Day for Truth and Reconciliation & Orange Shirt Day (non-instructional day for students and teachers). The City of Calgary will be hosting events on September 30. Check out the link here.

Student Opportunities
- Grade 7 Band – We encourage Grade 7 students to consider joining band this year! It’s a wonderful way to develop new skills, build friendships, and be part of something special.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to create a safe, caring, and engaging school environment for every student. Please don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Warm regards,
Bryan Allen
