Today we had a whole school assembly to learn and respond to our commitment to truth and reconciliation.  We wore our Orange Shirts as a visual awareness and reflection of our commitment to Every Child Matters.

In recognition of National Indigenous Peoples Day, and in alignment with the CBE Education Plan, Ernest Morrow School acknowledges and supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada’s (TRC) Calls to Action, and makes the following commitment to action for the 2024-25 school year:

At Ernest Morrow School, we are committed to continuing our focus on integrating Indigenous knowledge, languages and teaching methods into classrooms through intentional task design.  This focus will include weaving Indigenous ways of being, belonging, doing and knowing into the learning tasks with the intent to activate the spirit, heart, body and mind.    Call to Action 10 offered inspiration.

In the spirit of today and as we move into our National Day of reconciliation, I would like to Acknowledge the land where we gather.  We would like to acknowledge the traditional territories and oral practices of the Blackfoot Nations, which includes the Siksika, the Piikani, and the Kainai. We also acknowledge the Tsuut’ina and Stoney Nakoda First Nations, the Métis Nation, and all people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.

Did you know…

Ernest Morrow has its own school psychologist on site, Kim Barber. CBE psychologists apply their psychological and educational expertise to support students in achieving academic success, psychological health, and social/emotional well-being.  The main purpose at Ernest Morrow is to assist the school in addressing barriers to improve student success.  The psychologist will provide a number of different services. Some examples that may take place include informal consultation (multidisciplinary, not specific to a student), professional learning, and class wide social-emotional learning. If a student is put forward by the learning team, targeted intervention may also take place (with parent permission ONLY). Targeted interventions could include psychological assessment, individual counselling, small group intervention, and formal consultation (specific to a student).

If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school principal (Ms. Schwartz) or the psychologist directly at 403-777-7800

Students who do not comply with the Ministerial Order will be asked to leave their phones in the office for the day.

Have a great weekend!
