A few reminders as we start a new semester
Away for the Day” Policy
We have an “Away for the Day” digital policy at Ernest Morrow School. This means that any digital device that students bring to school, must remain in their locker for the day. The only exception is that teachers allow them to use devices for schoolwork. Exceptions are made for students who need a personal computer to complete the work they do. Students in grades 7-9 who are allowed to leave CBE grounds at lunch can take their cell phones with them and use them while off our grounds or in front of the school. When they return after lunch these go into their lockers. After school, students can turn on their devices and use these to contact their parents. Calls during the day should be done using the landlines at the school.
Digital Citizenship Policy
Cell phones and other technology have become a regular part of our day. It is expected that any student who has a cell phone will:
- Practice responsible digital citizenship
- Be respectful online
- Use the cell phone in class only for learning and when not needed for learning refrain from using it
- Be respectful and comply with teacher requests around the management of the cell phone in the classroom.
- Respect all privacy rules and expectations

Attendance
Attendance Line: 403-777-7800 ext 1
Students are expected to arrive at school on time ready to learn.
Regular school attendance and punctuality is a law set out by the Province of Alberta through the Education Act, June 2016, sections 7 (Compulsory Education), 8 (Enforcing School Attendance), and 9 (Attendance at School). This document is available at http://www.qp.alberta.ca/documents/Acts/e00p3.pdf. The document outlines acceptable reasons for absence and consequences for frequent, late, or non-attendance.
The CBE Administrative Regulation 6020 - Attendance of Students – outlines our belief that there is a strong positive correlation between attendance and effective education. Therefore, students registered in school or programs shall attend regularly and punctually. It is the responsibility of parents to ensure compliance with this requirement and the responsibility of schools to ensure that parents are informed promptly when the attendance of students is not satisfactory.
Parents are requested to call the office if their child will be absent or late. When calling the office for attendance, please state your child’s name, teacher, your name, and relationship to the child. Students who arrive late must check in at the office before going to class. When lates or absences are excessive, parents or guardians will receive a letter requesting to meet with school administration. We would like to work with parents to support their child in improving their attendance. Our first task in meeting with you is to understand your child’s needs and then develop a plan to support greater school success.
