Weekly Update Nov. 13-17 | Remembrance Day Ceremony, Psychologist, Webinar, Immunizations
Hello Parents/Guardians,
We have had such a good week. Yesterday we were able to have a Remembrance Day and Veteran’s Day Ceremony. Our students led the speeches that explained the importance of the day and why we need to remember. This was the first full (all grades) assembly we have had in five years. They were very respectful and I am so proud of your/our students!
Act of Remembrance
They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.

Did you know…..
Ernest Morrow has its own school psychologist on site; Kim Barber. All CBE psychologists apply their psychological and educational expertise to support students in achieving academic success, psychological health, and social/emotional well-being. The main purpose is to assist the school in addressing barriers to improve student success. Psychological services provide a continuum of supports ranging from universal to targeted interventions. Universal interventions include Informal Consultation (multidisciplinary, not specific to a student) (e.g. Area Learning Team, School Learning Team, Student Program Review, Specialized class placement) and Professional Learning. If a student is put forward by the Learning Team, targeted intervention may also take place (with parent permission ONLY). Targeted interventions include Psychological Assessment, Individual Counselling, Small Group Intervention and Formal Consultation (specific to a student) including File review and suggestions, Behaviour intervention, Diagnostic clarity, and Case management.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact the school principal or the psychologist directly at 403-777-7800.

Child and Youth Well-Being: A Webinar Series for Parents and Guardians
CBE educators believe that parents and guardians can inspire their kids to make healthy lifestyle choices and increase protective factors – in order to do so, they need the right tools and information.
Well-being is a precondition for learning. As our understanding of student well-being continues to evolve, it is important for those that support children and youth to stay up to date on the same information so everyone can support student success.
The intention of the series is to advance student well-being by raising family and caregiver’s understanding of a variety of health-related topics.
Thank you for your time and consideration to join us.

Immunizations
This email is to inform you that the Alberta Health Services School Immunization Program will be at Ernest Morrow School on November 22, 2023 in the morning to immunize Grade 9 students. Children who are eligible to receive immunizations at school received an immunization consent package. Please review the information, fill out the consent forms, and return to the school as soon as possible. Vaccinations will only be given to students who have consent forms signed by a parent/guardian. Note: Consent forms that are not returned will be followed up with a phone call from the school nurse.
*Please note COVID-19 vaccinations will NOT be offered in the school.
Appointments in clinics will not be available as this is a public health program provided in the school setting.
The School Immunization Program is committed to helping prepare your child with the best tools to make their experience more comfortable. We will be encouraging students to prepare for immunization day using the Distraction Techniques listed on the AHS Commitment to Comfort website. Please see attached document for further tips and resources.
Other ways to help your child on immunization day are:
- Eat breakfast,
- Pack healthy snacks/lunch and a water bottle,
- Have your child wear a short sleeve shirt as immunizations go in the arms,
- Use positive language to encourage your child before, on, and after immunization day.
Have great weekend!
