Hello Parents and/or Guardians,

I hope everyone was able to relax and enjoy some of the great weather we have had.  As always, summer seems to fly by with various activities and family events.  I am sure you and your children have started the conversation regarding the first day of school for the 2024-2025 school year. While we have a few more days left of summer, I wanted to give you some start-up information.

First Day of Classes

Our first day of classes for all Ernest Morrow School (EMS) students is Thursday, August 29, 2024 and the school office is open to parents/guardians on Monday, August 26, 2024 at 9 AM.

Thursday, the first day of school, will be a staggered entry. We are beginning our school year this way to limit the number of students entering the school at one time.

Parents/guardians will not be allowed in the school unless they need to register a student at the main office.  If parents/guardians are accompanying student(s) to school, they will need to say goodbyes outside at designated entry doors.

The purpose of the plan is:

  • To ease the transition of students into school,
  • To spend time with smaller groups familiarizing them with school protocols and processes,
  • To allow each child and accompanying family member to have a successful and memorable “first day of school” drop-off.
  • Only students are allowed in the building. Parents who are dropping children off will need to say their goodbyes near designated entrance doors.

Our Staggered Entry Plan for the first day for Grade 7-9 Students is as follows:

Thursday, August 29, 2024

  • Students in Grade 7/Bridges/LEAD/PLP will attend from 8:27 AM – 3:00 PM (lunch 12:23 – 12:59 PM).
  • Students in Grade 8/9 will attend from 12:59 PM - 3:00 PM.
    • Grade 8/9 students will not have access to the building/classrooms until 12:59 PM.

Friday, August 30, 2024

  • ALL students attend from 8:27 AM – 12:07 PM
  • Breakfast program doors (main entry) will be open at 8:05 AM. The breakfast program begins Tuesday, September 3, 2024
  • All entry doors will be open at 8:20 AM.

Drinks at School

We ask that students do not bring open drinks such as slurpees or pop cans into the building. Drinks with lids are welcome.

Cell Phones

Students are expected to keep cell phones at home, in their backpack or in their locker.

Drop-offs and Pick-up

Reminder:

There is a lot of congestion in our small staff parking lot. Parents and Guardians are asked not to drive up to the school to drop off their child, but to park in the family parking lot where students can safely exit the vehicle.   Please keep the area in front of the main doors clear for students who are arriving in busses and taxis.   Let’s keep our students safe!
